First time planting seeds 4 Months ago Karma: 4
Bought 1/2 pound of seeds this year to try forest setting planting. I didn't do soil testing because it's kind of a test. Now I live in the PA coal country and are soil tends to be acidic. I've found patches of ginseng in what I call micro climates they also tend to be the area's I target black morel's. I've been trying to grow morels in a lab setting for over 10 years (Have yet to fruit a morel but have made great strides). But knowing what soil types (PH, minerals, soil moisture etc) needed to grow morels thru the stages they look very much like what's needed for good ginseng growth. From what I've seen in my area all the area's that I pick black morels have small ginseng patches. I will be working on black morel spawn beds with ginseng rootlets once I get some sang growing.

trahn007,
I have noticed the same when it comes to morels and ginseng. Whats cool about this ginseng forum is there are many outdoorsmen that Trap, hunt, ginseng hunt, beekeeping and hunt mushrooms etc.

I as well as others have posted many times about mushroom hunting. I hunt mushrooms in the spring, summer, fall and early winter. Just picked the last Oysters of the year early last week. So I do not expect to see anymore mushrooms until this spring. But you just never know about Oysters. A week of mild temps and some more might pop.

I joined the beekeeping forum. Looking forward to reading and studying up on it. I am sure it will contain a lot of great information for a beekeeping beginner like me. I just might buy some bees yet this year and try my hand at it. I was going to wait until next year but I have been studying up on it a lot and I might know just enough to possibly give it a try.

Good luck with your ginseng plantings too.
Latt
