....Hopper I ain't checked for awhile, the best I've heard up here is 475 to 485 a pound ,its been going up slowly ever since season opened.."if it dont move to $600 this year Im carrying mine till next year.".....that's exactly what I'm going to do..hang in there ,I still think it will move up despite what some buyers say..

The dealer Iv always sold to seems to be very honest and he told me that last year alot of large dealers held out on the asian buyers. They were saying the drought caused a decrease in harvested seng and that made the price shoot up fast. When it got to the highest point, they all unloaded on them. He also said this year the asians were tryin to teach everybody a lesson and to get the expectations of price back down. Whether this is true or not I dont know but I like to think so and it makes sense. This especially occurred in TN and Ky and you can see our prices are lowest.... so it looks like we are getting a spanking down here. I believe it's a test of wills and it all depends on who breaks first. If everyone would hold to $600 then that is what the price would be but alot of guys I know give in too soon.

There hasn't been alot of interest from the buyers I talk to all season. That being said the last 2 weeks all the buyers I have spoken with have said they will match any dealers price in the area. They are also really wanting me to bring the roots by to make an even better offer. Sounds like to me the price may really go up between now Christmas.

I tell ya what, If everybody would just stop digging altogether for a year or two then by god we would find out how much our Seng is really worth. You talk about some pockets gettin deeper... it would almost be funny to see. That will never happen but it sure would be a sight.

Re:Hey Chief 6 Months ago Karma: 16
Whats sad is there are probably some big middlemen that are in the position to do this and are already doing this.

The digger is getting a low price. The local buyer is buying and selling for what they can get and no one is getting rich. Then some larger wealthy middlemen exporters buy large enough lots and hold onto it in an attempt to affect pricing and price is driven up due to the old supply and demand.

I was told recently from a reliable source that good wild American seng goes for up to $2,200 per oz in china. Yes per oz not per lb. So the end user is getting screwed in Asia as they are paying $2,200 per oz for something we are selling for $500 per pound.

So the digger and the end user are both getting screwed and someone in the middle is getting filthy stinkin rich.
