TOPIC: FOUND A FEW TODAY

FOUND A FEW TODAY 11 years 7 months ago #19839

Hi ALL
Well I snuck out of work early today..again.
I had the fever.needed to get out before all the seng is gone.I went to a spot were I get lots of big ginseng.
It is in old fallen pine tree tops.I seen a couple of red leafed seng plants today.I didnt get pictures of the first ones,I forgot I had my camera in my back pack.I did however get a photo of the last one.Only one leaf left on it and I knocked it off before I snapped.I think the leaves turn this red shade when they are between green and yellow.I am not sure though.I do have photos of last year when I did find a few the same color.
Does anyone know if the pine would have anything to do with this or is it just yhe season change. Thanks

PA..

That is a little unusual so see red in seng leaves.

I have seen them of course greenish yellow, then to just yellow, and a few times very pale yellow with a pinkish tint to them.

I don't recall seeing one with as much red in it as your pic.

Probably something in the soil or just the weather (moisture levels) and soil conditions that causes that.

Not sure but that would be my guess.

I have seen red leaves like that in areas that have been timbered and the plant is getting too much sun. I've just referred to it as sunburnt, but it could be a soil deficiency of some sort.

I planted a few small roots in brick planters that are attached to my patio and it's pretty much in full sunlight and those plants come up green every year and around June they turn red like the ones in your pictures. Had never seen it before though. Glad I ain't got the only red sang in the country !
