TOPIC: 1st post: Please help identify

Hi everyone. This is my first post on here so I hope I'm going about it the right way. Anyway, my wife and our two kids were out for a stroll on our road this evening, when my wife spotted this laying beside our neighbors mailbox. No root attached and I didn't have time to investigate any further at that time. So i'm not sure whether had gotten trampled or a limb fell on it, or if it was dropped. I've only recently taken an interest in finding ginseng bc we live on 65 mostly wooded acres in middle Tennessee and I'm always searching for a good excuse to roam the woods, as I've done here since I learned how to walk. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you
