The National Weather Service really missed the low temperature this morning. Yesterday, they were not even giving a frost advisory and they gave a low of 38 degrees. It is now 29 degrees at my house in the East Tennessee Valley. That will be the end of ginseng for the season. I imagine there was a hard freeze in the mountains and probably every leaf on the trees will fall off in a few days.
Grouse season is up next I hope all of you had a good ginseng season.
I'm in Sevierville, Tn here and I think it got to mid to high 30's here. I hunt up in the mountains near Gatlinburg, and also in Townsend. So you can usually knock off 5 to 10 degrees up there. I plan on going early next week to see what I'm dealing with. I may find some stragglers. Speaking of grouse, I've flushed a few ginseng hunting this season. I think you're right though it's about time to hang up the digger and break out the shotgun. Not to mention fall crappie fishing.
