Starting to pop up.... updated pictures 4/3/12 5 years 8 months ago #17176

Hello all. It's been a while since my last visit so, I thought that I would share some pictures of my seed stock plants that are starting to pop up already this year. I also have a few questions that I could use some help with.

Here are the beginnings of my ramp patch.

The blood root is really coming out well.

Here are a few of the little beauties.

I must not have down loaded the other 3 prong starting to emerge.

Now here are some of my problems.

This stuff is thick as hair on a cats back. What can I do to get rid of it... or will it bother anything?

Some of my trees have died.

And has left me with more sun light that I really like.

Here is some cohosh that came up nicely and some that came up unexpectedly.

The second picture is of the cohosh that came out of my drying rack when the wife dumped it outside..

Your woods look like something from the \"Lord of the Rings\" movie. Beautiful!

good luck this year!

Thanks for the comment. The tornado's a couple of years back really worked on our big trees and lighting last year got a couple more. I am going to get my uncle to log the downed and dead trees with his mules. The picture doesn't do the woods justice as there are tons more limestone rocks and getting around them even with a tracked bobcat about nocked me senseless.

did you spray herbicide? If you did you can plant very small tulip poplur trees. The stuff that is thich as the hair on a cats back is chick weed.It dont like shade. But it grows real good after you spray herbicide.

Are your curled leaves because of the plant just starting to unfurl the leaves? I had a few rootlets that did that last year, and they always looked a bit curley after that.

Hunter,
Nice pics and wild plants. Looks like you are getting some slug damage on your ginseng. You might want to consider using some \"Deadline\" slug pellets around your ginseng. Also that stringy ground plant could also be \"Cleavers\". Pull a handful out and if it has a Velcro like sticky feel to it then it is cleavers weed. Weather it is chick weed or cleavers weed I would try to remove it by hand or with a spray prior to the seng coming up next year.
I would say the slug damage is more threatening than the thick weedy ground cover thou.
Good luck Hunter.

Koolrayz,
I have been busy mushroom hunting and have not checked any of my ginseng beds or woods yet. However, I do have one 3 prong already up and ready to open in my shade garden at the house. Just one thou, and none of the others are up just that one which is odd I guess. I know the others will come up soon thou.
