TOPIC: Strawberry leafs

Strawberry leafs 6 years 8 months ago #40250

Wild seedlings growing too close together. Has anyone successfully dug up a clump like this and separated them ? How delicate are one-year old roots ?

Here are some plants at the top of the slope. They were even bigger last year. I think the drought last year caused this year's stems to be smaller.

Hmmm not sure about those seedlings but I would guess they probably wouldn't like it...only one way to find out though. Great looking four prongers there, nice to see 'em loaded up with berries, just keep the damn rodents away!

Thanks for the replies. I already tried the " wait and see " approach. It resulted in everything dying. Now I plan to intervene.

First year seedlings (3 leafers) are on the delicate side. I would not suggest moving them the first year. Wait until the end of year two if you can.

If you had to try and relocate them that first year for some reason, I would wait until fall or late summer, when ever they have done all they are going to do for the year (turning yellow tops dyeing back), and have developed next years bud spur, and then transplant them then.

Good Luck

Only a few days remaining ! I have scouted many square miles of habitat. I hope to get at least 4,000 seeds planted. Good luck to everyone !

Mice have stripped this location. Here is a large plant with no berries left.
