TOPIC: Cultivated seed

Cultivated seed 12 years 10 months ago #9740

I've got a quick question

I dug about sixty good mature roots last year, off a remote steep, north facing hillside. They appeared to be nice wild plants. However, when they dryed up, they dried a different color and lacked the stress rings.

My question is, is there a difference between wild ginseng seed and cultivated ginseng seed?

It didn't look like these plants had ever been messed with as far as extra care,....pretty remote and scattered.

I don't think the difference in seeds will create a difference in the roots appearance. You can plant seeds from true wild plants in cultivated conditions and end up with roots that look cultivated instead of wild looking.

It's all in how they are grown. Thats why the different catagories of ginseng. Like, Wild, wild-simulated, woods cultivated and field cultivated.

Your roots must have been growing in some pretty soft soil with no rocks or roots. Just a thought.

That's what puzzles me, they were in some pretty rough ground,...lots of undergrowth, plenty of roots and i don't think you could get any rockier.

Perhaps it was something strange with the soil

The first place i took this bunch said they couldn't take them because they were afraid they wouldn't be able to sell them. He told me they looked like cultivated plant roots.

I ended up selling to a private buyer for market price at the time.....i think $450/lbs. I only had about a half a pound though.

Just kinda wondering if it was the soil or..........
