I've noticed that also NY n vt are very alike in habitat. Lots of dark rocky dirt where shang loves to grow big.:)

Dang Hobbler,
You must have such a nice wild habitat for wild ginseng to find that many nice roots on a \"short walk\". I wish I lived up that way. lol

This spot has more sang to dig. I don't like being there long its close to a rd so I go in takes bout ten mins to get to shang dig for a hr then get out. Afraid someone mite poach it on me. Its a great place I give 5 cord of wood to have permission to dig it. Works out great for me

Hobbler,
That's an awesome trade. Glad there are still great spots like that out there in the wild. Between losing habitat and there being a lot of seng hunters in Ohio, I rarely find seng spots like I did back in the 70's when I first started hunting. I am sure there are some tucked away spots somewhere but I haven't found them.
Any large tracts of land with old growth forest are typically called State Parks in Ohio. lol Some actually do have some wild seng growing in them. I have seen a few here and there. Nothing large tho just small 3 prongs. Makes me believe there are poachers hitting the state parks too.
I figure if I can't find much seng anymore then I will just grow it from seed.
