Hi everybody. I'm new at this and interested in hunting for Ginseng. I have about 20 acres of land in western PA, and people have told me that I might have a gold mine of Ginseng since it's all woods and hasn't been touched since the 40's (with the exception of some select cut logging.

Anyway, what would be the best way to get started? I've seen what the plant looks like, but many plants look like that. Where does it normally grow? Sun, shade, by fallen logs, etc? Also, when do the berries / seeds usually come out?

Thanks in advance for the help : )

The best way is to get out and start looking. As you are looking for any sang that may be there keep your eyes open to what other plants you are seeing. Snake root, black or blue cohash, dolls eye, trillium, Christmas fern, jack in the pulpit, etc. They are good indicators that sang may be present.
