According to the U.S. Fish and wildlife service. In 1993 The top five states in Wild Ginseng production(certified) were:
Kentucky 26,508 pounds
West Virginia 19,224 pounds
Tennessee 13,840 pounds
Indiana 10,459 pounds
Virginia 10,075 pounds
I Think Kentucky is the top producer of Wild Seng. And From what I have seen from the kind of roots Billy has been digging, they lead in size and quality also.
Also the previous five years for these states was about the same. I dont believe that the numbers have changed too much up to 2010
For cultivated Ginseng 1993
Wisconsin 1,371,392 pounds
Tennessee 5,304 pounds
Minnesota 3,833 pounds
Maryland 1,509 pounds
West Virginia 611 pounds
If you have ever been to Marathon County Wisconsin, you would be in shock at the sight of all the Cultivated Seng farms with the black screen coverings. It a Sight to behold!
