TOPIC: which state produces the most seng?

im just curious. does anyone know if there is one state the produces more wild seng than the others each year?

I have always heard that Kentucky harvests the most every year.

This is the most current I could find from the FWS. 2001. Scroll down and it lists amount harvest by each state and a ten year average.

Ten year average:#1 Ky 23,446 lbs, #2 TN 14,462 lbs

Thanks bud, i was wanderin if there was a website showing the harvest reports I just wish they updated a little more often. I thought it might be ky, that rich ky soil grows some nice roots every year

Yeah its Kentucky. You can go on Ky dept of agriculture page and it has all kinds of info on their ginseng program. they have lead in the most wild seng harvested for as long as i can remember.

I sure would like go go up and dig a little in ky. although we have the same basic type of land to hunt where i live in western nc, a lot of that land is park. I spend a lot of time in the great smokies national parl and I have seen some monster 4 and 5 prongs growing that I would love to get my digger underneath. But im glad we have the park, its good to know my children will have a place to at least see seng growing after the poachers wipe the rest of it out.

Kentucky is the top producing state on average for a number of years. Harvest data is only available through an open records request.
