Hey guys I just wanted to ask a quick question last year was my first year I found ginseng. Every time I found ginseng there was Paw Paw trees in understory do you guys have the same experience

Not every time for me but sometimes for sure. Spicebush is a great indicator understory tree for me often.

It almost favors a dogwood a little bit, especially a little later when the berries are red. I have thick patches of it I clear out in places before I plant. If you think you find one you can tear a leaf and it will have a ”zesty” smell.

It loves to grow around Black walnut. Very prevalent in areas with abundant Poplar trees as well as Sugar Maple.
